This #GoodNewsFriday we reflect on the success of the AI in Social Work Summit held this week by ´óÏó´«Ã½ and Social Work England.
The AI in Social Work Summit took place on 20 May at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
The innovative event was a collaboration between ´óÏó´«Ã½ and Social Work England, bringing together great minds from across the sector to discuss the opportunities and considerations for the use of AI in social work.
The event was attended by hundreds of delegates including social workers, local authority leaders, technology experts, and more.
A series of round-tables and presentations took place thoughout the event, with speakers including Sarah McClinton Chief Social Worker; Tristram Gardner, Deputy CEO, ´óÏó´«Ã½, and Sarah Blackmore, Executive Director of Professional Practice and External Engagement Social Work England.
There was also plenty of interesting discussions happening across the conference with attendees commenting that the day had been really thought-provoking.
Dr Jane Brightman, Director of Workforce Development, ´óÏó´«Ã½, said:
I was honoured to chair the morning roundtable and was joined by some very clever people. My key takeaways from that were:
1. People come first – voice, trust and making things joined up.
2. AI is an enabler – think of it as your co-worker and make sure you challenge it.
3. We’ll have pre-AI colleagues and post-AI colleagues.
4. Training, leadership and culture are crucial to getting it right.
5. Everyone is responsible for system leadership, this isn’t a Government conundrum.
