In this week鈥檚 #GoodNewsFriday we hear about the recent Connections Event held for the new Global Majority Nursing Network.

大象传媒 was proud to hold a Connections Event on 10 February for the new Global Majority Nursing Network (GMNN).

Hosted by Dudley Sawyerr, National Co-chair of 大象传媒’s Race Equity Reference Group, the event was a face-to-face opportunity to celebrate, connect, and create a stronger, more inclusive future for Black and Asian nurses working in social care.

A key speaker, Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care celebrated the contributions of Black and Asian nursing colleagues recognising the value added to teams and people who draw on care and support. Deborah highlighted how members individually and collectively have the leadership skills to make a difference through the network. She encouraged members to influence and lead change to improve the experiences of Black and Asian nursing colleagues.

Kier Arvin Dungo, co-chair of the network, another key speaker, talked about how the event is promoting inclusion, connection, and empowerment. He discussed working with network members and allies to build the network to greater strength.

The aims of the GMNN are to provide access to celebrate Black and Asian nursing colleagues’ contribution to social care, enable peer support and networking, support personal and professional leadership development, and provide an opportunity to nationally influence changes to social care nursing experiences.

At the event, colleagues celebrated and connected with each other by sharing their experiences and discussing how to overcome disproportionate negative challenges to help create solutions that strengthen our sector. Through open conversations and shared stories, we heard about examples of practical strategies as well as peer support, coaching, mentoring, and allyship which could reduce or prevent experiences of discrimination to provide a good team experience.

The event celebrated the cultures of nursing colleagues recognising that Black and Asian nursing colleagues’ diverse cultural perspectives and experiences are a superpower adding value to teams and making an impact to people. The event enabled colleagues to enhance their confidence and be their authentic selves.

The Global Majority Nursing Network was established in August 2025 with an Advisory Group meeting, with the first network session taking place in September.

The Global Majority Nursing Network is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care.
